I Debunked the Heartworm Scam

Are you completely sold on the official heartworm narrative? Is there no doubt in your mind that those selling heartworm “preventatives” are motivated only by their desire to keep your dog well?

If you can answer “yes” to either of those questions, the video I just made is probably not for you. If you really think your dog is at risk for infestation by a deadly parasite and the only thing that can protect him is a chemical preventative, you’re probably not going to be swayed by the information I’ve just uncovered. And it probably goes without saying that if you make any part of your living from selling these ‘preventatives,’ you’re not going to be receptive either.

Red Flags

If you’re as suspicious as I was before I started researching the scam, however, you will appreciate this information. If, like me, you’re old enough to remember what it was like to have dogs BEFORE the heartworm scam, you’ll have smelled a rat a long time ago. It wasn’t heartworm itself that organically produced all this fear among dog owners. No. The panic surrounding heartworm was fully a creation of the heartworm industry.

Fear-based Marketing

The heartworm industry pretends to have “zero tolerance” for heartworm larvae but this is a device they’ve used to incite panic. This is very interesting because they don’t seem to have zero tolerance for all the disease that commercial pet foods create. Commercial pet food is responsible for almost all of the disease that heartworm is said to cause (Congestive Heart Failure). In order to sell a recurring chemical product to 50 million dog owners, you must create a culture of absolute fear.  They’ve done that, in spades.

It’s time for some objective thinking about the whole heartworm narrative. When looked at through the lens of objectivity, it falls apart.

Call their bluff, like I have

For my part, I have never given a dog a heartworm preventative and I never will. I don’t test and I don’t worry about it. The only time I ever think about heartworm is when I’m informing others of what a money-grubbing scam it is. Enjoy the video.
